Old Autumn

I saw old Autumn in the misty morn
Stand, shadowless like Silence, listening
To Silence.
~ Thomas Hood

Most of these photos were taken during a walk or two back in October and September.

centennial park
Colours were still pretty much in full display along the shores of Little Lake in Peterborough.

people in the park
This couple was enjoying the day's warmth.

statues in the park
As were these two.

duckie sunlight
This little cutie's colours shone in the late day sunlight.

pier pooch
All dressed up and nowhere to go.

rainbow liftlock cruise2
This Liftlock cruise boat was sailing right into the rainbow.

rainbow liftlock cruise4
I guess this was its turnaround point for the tour.

30 geese and duckie
That boat sailed alone but this honking flotilla numbered thirty.

duckie wave
And our sweet little mallard friend is waving them through.

harbour
There is a rather large community of boaters who stay moored to the harbour throughout summer and early autumn.

sunset fountain3
The setting sun makes the building across the lake appear as if it's all ablaze.

firefighter sculpture
Good to know that the fire department is always ready – just in case.

Was it an optical illusion, or is the big guy causing the bench to tilt quite a bit?

Such a treat to get to stroll along with you. TY

Hi, Hilary!

What a clever way to end your post! I am eager to view any and all pictures of autumn splendor because I seldom see it first hand. Mrs. Shady and I have a pond next to our building and at its center is a fountain. It doesn't propel water as high in the sky as the one on your lake but I have seen rainbows in it from time to time. I appreciate the shots of the sculpture, the dog and the ducks, especially the one that captures the mallard flapping its wings.

Thank you very much for showing us more postcards from your Canadian paradise, dear friend Hilary!

I enjoyed your walk. Ours was inside because of the snow today. The bird in flight is my favourite photo but I love the statues as well.

I love the mallard waving them through. They are now one their way down here, the whole noisy gang.

What a lovely walk you've shared with us! A pretty autumn day like we don't get down here.

Looks like it was a perfect day for a stroll with a camera! We're only just now getting good autumn weather here in Austin! But that's okay with me. :)

Your photographs are always interesting and poetic.

Looking at your pictures makes me feel like I'm there. I love the mallard waving the ducks through the best. Made me smile and I'm still smiling. :-)

Water tied many things together in this post. Leaves and boats are on their way out.

Ahhhh..Autumn, I will sure miss it! I love all the pics and you have captured the simple beauty of your town. How cool to have those statues everywhere! Have a good weekend!

The duck images are so beautiful. Such detail! Love the fountain and rainbow, too. And, of course, the well-dressed dog.

I enjoyed reading the comments ahead of mine, because they reveal things I've said all along: what a joy it is to stop here and see the life you capture in these photos! The dog on the pier was a lot of fun. Is he yours?

No wonder you moved to that town, such a pretty lake!

Nice sunny days to enjoy and snap some fantastic shots.

The geese are gone here now...and the mallards, too. I wonder where those boats go in the winter? Have a super week. :)

Glad to see you have posted once again. I hope things are progressing in the right direction.

That duck is a traffic controller for sure. Your landscape is so pretty there by the lake, Hilary. A place I visit in AZ (Fountain Hills) has a similar water feature. I like how it looks at dusk.

Leave it up to joeh to notice such things. :)

Me... I wondered how the boaters have privacy. They're so close. I guess it's like living in apartments.

All the photos were a pleasure to see. You always present views that show life as being so wonderful.

Lovely golden light of autumn. And those boats looks very comfortable.

Those houseboats look fun to live on to me

I need a doggie swearer like that one in your picture. Our little Yorkie gets chilly when we walk on cold mornings.

I went on the Liftlock cruise last year and posted pics about it. All those golden leaves have blown away now, but real winter seems to be slow in taking hold so far.

i live very near the 79th St Boat Basin here on the UWS of Manhattan and before Hurricane Sandy there were a lot of houseboats just like those on your little lake permanently docked at the Boat Basin ... its been over 2 yrs now and yet they've not returned ...maybe some of yours were mine once

Yup, the bench is sinking in. :) Didn't the little bronze girl once hold something? Look at the curve of her arm. I like your fireman too.

I love all the ducks and geese in the water - they are so cute!

That looks like a beautiful place for a walk.

I look at your photos and feel as though I could walk into them and enjoy the scenery in person. Lovely job, as always.

love the houseboats! I've always wanted to live on a houseboat ever since my year at summer camp when I was old enough to be in one of the floating cabins.

You are living in a lovely place now, Hilary. Love your photos, especially the cute dog all dressed up and no place to go. Love the Fireman sculpture too.
Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Life does seem to get in the way now and then.

The moored boats are most interesting. I would imagine the inhabitants would have most interesting stories to tell as well.

Enjoyed it.
